AUGUSTINE JOHANNESBURG LAUNCHES BRAND NEW MENSWEAR COLLECTION FOR AW14

AUGUSTINE JOHANNESBURG

Augustine in Johannesburg is a Parkhurst-based menswear label that we have featured on the blog before. This tiny label came out of nowhere this passed fashion week and has become a largely credible and innovative presence in South African fashion. This thrilling young label is headed by Marea Lewis and Justine August,  their autumn/winter 2014 collection is the culmination of three main genres coming together; biking attire, street wear and of course excellent tailoring.

By combining these elements Augustine have made themselves ‘the one to watch’ by aiming to retain their tailoring imperative, while introducing a host of exciting design elements like plush fabrics, quilting and impressive panelling and keeping to their monochromatic style.

Taking risks was their first goal and may I just commend them on succeeding. Not only does Augustine deliver on quality and a great sense of humility, but their brave aesthetic is a breath of fresh air compared to many of the contrived collections we’ve seen locally before. While some of their contemporaries at fashion week were trying on new styles that were far removed from their prior collections, Augustine Johannesburg was improving on their existing model ten-fold. Modeled by B-boy Amelio Franck, Augustine‘s autumn/winter 2014 collection was shot by Pieter Vosloo in an among ruin and decay in Yeoville, Johannesburg. See some of the exciting new campaign images below and visit the Augustine Johannesburg Facebook page for more.

ASHLEY BELSECK FOR AUGUSTINE

I’m about a week late on this but had to share it. Gashette team up once more for this spring/summer 2013 Augustine shoot. Featuring Ashley Belseck from Pace, there is strong emphasis on shorts and lot’s of paneling. The fun night-time shoot was snapped by Steve Marais and styled by the oh-so-lovely Jessica Lupton.

MASEGO MAPONYANE FOR A FASHION FRIEND

Days before Maps was set to move to Cape Town I got him lined up and ready to shoot for A Fashion Friend. The half day shoot was actually a lot of fun as we showcased the presenter/model in his day-to-day life. We ran around from Parkhurst to Linden to capture this fine mans personality. You can read the interview and catch the latest issue of A Fashion Friend at this link. Clothing included was Sixpack France, APC, Paul Smith, Denham, Fred Perry and Augustine.

MERCEDES BENZ FASHION WEEK AFRICA DAY THREE

Melinda BAM. Great name. She appeared on the runway for the new Dax Martin collection, and our little Miss South Africa had with out a doubt the best body on the runway (which should probably not be the case). Unfortunately I was too close to the spotlight on these shots so they weren’t fantastic. I added the one of Ty Keogh because not only did he walk for David Tlale, he also won this years Best Dressed Man award for GQ.

Colin O’Mara Davis, my dear friend pictured below was dressed by Augustine. People were constantly asking to take his photograph because it of his slightly eccentric style. His looks were awesome but his outfit for Sunday was certainly the pièce de résistance. More on that later. Directly beneath Colin is a photograph of London based menswear blogger Matthew Zorpos from The Gentleman Blogger who was flown in by South African Tourism.
