Augustine in Johannesburg is a Parkhurst-based menswear label that we have featured on the blog before. This tiny label came out of nowhere this passed fashion week and has become a largely credible and innovative presence in South African fashion. This thrilling young label is headed by Marea Lewis and Justine August,  their autumn/winter 2014 collection is the culmination of three main genres coming together; biking attire, street wear and of course excellent tailoring.

By combining these elements Augustine have made themselves ‘the one to watch’ by aiming to retain their tailoring imperative, while introducing a host of exciting design elements like plush fabrics, quilting and impressive panelling and keeping to their monochromatic style.

Taking risks was their first goal and may I just commend them on succeeding. Not only does Augustine deliver on quality and a great sense of humility, but their brave aesthetic is a breath of fresh air compared to many of the contrived collections we’ve seen locally before. While some of their contemporaries at fashion week were trying on new styles that were far removed from their prior collections, Augustine Johannesburg was improving on their existing model ten-fold. Modeled by B-boy Amelio Franck, Augustine‘s autumn/winter 2014 collection was shot by Pieter Vosloo in an among ruin and decay in Yeoville, Johannesburg.
